About SWW

SouthWest Writers (SWW) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization devoted to helping both published and unpublished writers improve their craft and further their careers. Located in Albuquerque, New Mexico, SWW serves writers of all skill levels in every fiction and nonfiction genre. We are 95% supported by membership dues and the fees charged for events. Donations are welcome!

At a SouthWest Writers meeting you will hear positive stories about the world of writing and be encouraged by your peers. You’ll find helpful people in a crowd of friends—and be inspired.

SWW offers its members a variety of creative challenges every month—opportunities to be published and to learn both the art and business of writing—through the Sage Newsletter and our writing contests.

Take a look at our classes and workshops, as well as the benefits of membership. If you have any questions, please contact the SWW office. Better yet, visit one of our twice-monthly meetings. We hope to see you soon!

And spend a few minutes browsing our site and learn about the following anthologies written, edited, and published through collaboration with the SouthWest Writers membership:

History

SWW had its beginnings in the early 1980s as New Mexico Romance Writers (NMRW) with five members. In 1984, the organization had grown to about 150 members—and NMRW voted to change its name and open the group to writers of all genres. Today, with more than 400 members, SWW attracts writers, editors, and publishers around the world. For a detailed history of the organization, read The History of SouthWest Writers (updated 2023).
