A Novel Writing Conference
Saturday ♦ October 28, 2017
8:30 am to 4:00 pm
Just in time to get ready for NANOWRIMO (National Novel Writing Month) in November, here’s a day-long program that is designed to walk you through all the stages of writing your novel and getting it published. This same set of steps applies to memoir or creative non-fiction – any book that tells a story.
We will present this roadmap to building a novel in six sessions:
♦What’s your story? This looks at the process of finding the story you want to tell. How do you determine if this is the right story for you?
♦The plot that sells. This session show you how to outline a plot that builds interest and tension from beginning to end.
♦Character and dialog. Learn how to introduce your characters and get reader buy-in through authentic and gripping dialog.
♦The place as character. Setting is critical. Tony Hillerman knew this, as did the writers of Breaking Bad where Albuquerque itself became a character.
♦Revision as polish. Ok, you have your story, your plot and character and your setting. Now let’s rewrite and revise to perfection.
♦Finding a publisher. Should you go agent or straight to an editor? Here’s the step-by-step process of grabbing the interest of the publishing world.
Six authors, all of whom have published award winning novels for major publishing houses will elucidate and inspire you in your quest to achieve success in your writing career!
Sign up forms and more information will be forthcoming in the September Sage and Online by Sept. 1st.
