True Crime, Paranormal
David First grew up in Miami, Florida. Born into a large, dysfunctional, creative family (they claim to have put ‘fun’ in dysfunctional), he always felt a need to write. What he calls his true life’s work. After graduating from Florida State University in 1980, with a degree in theater and music, he entered the business world becoming a top award-winning banker and financial planner. At the same time, he also won awards for writing, directing, and producing TV commercials and local TV shows in Gainesville and Tampa, Florida. He’s had several short stories published, including one in the University of South Florida’s Oracle. No matter how well he did in his professional life, his heart was always into being creative through writing and composing music. Now retired, the kids grown up, with more and more grandkids crawling on the floor, he focuses on producing music and writing books without the burden of hoping his creativity will make enough money to house and feed his family.

More from David:
I’ve been writing all my life. I’ve discovered that modern publishers in the ebook age want writers who think like them, write like them, and no matter how great the story is, unless you’re already famous, want you to have unlimited funds to implement a great marketing plan while they pick up their share of the royalties.
My love of writing stories and composing music is not just a part of my soul. I do it because I do love it. I go to sleep every night dreaming of my next great song or book chapter. I don’t know how many times I’ve jumped out of bed in the middle of the night to quickly sketch out a story or a song.
I wrote The Secret Psychic Files because when I was a student at FSU, I met the lead detective George Brand and promised I would write his story and see it published. Easier said than done. I was a good storyteller, but not so good at writing mainstream novels. Then I met a published author who said, hey, you write backwards, sort of. My world changed with simple writing lessons from her. I went from strange to wow, give me more.
I’ve written an opera, musicals, TV commercials (Elton John cut one of my commercials for Nancy Reagan’s “Just Say No” to drugs campaign), seven manuscripts, dozens of story sketches, and hundreds of songs. I’m hoping to see them all in print or on stage one day.
There is nothing that compares to writing outrageous adventures, erotic steamy romances, and mesmerizing bazaar stories for people to enjoy. A beginning, a middle and an end.
Never stop, never quit, and never give up. Never think just because publishers reject your stories, or music, that something interesting isn’t coming out at the ends of your fingertips.
