Scenes — and their sequels — are the building blocks of storytelling, whether it’s fiction or memoir. You can create a plot from a list of key scenes. The “sequel” is the back end of a scene, showing how the world has changed after the action in the scene. The class will explore how to create scenes that are fractals of your larger story, complete with dialog, motive, conflict, drama, and resolve. In these six two-hour classes, we will spend the first hour looking at the principles of great scenes, and the second hour looking at scenes submitted by students. Course materials include handouts for each session.
