Genre: Contemporary Detective

Charles Prentiss chickened out on becoming a private eye after nearly getting shot serving papers to a car thief. He’s got a desk job in New Orleans, where he’s engaged to Gwendolyn, a lawyer. But he doesn’t feel like he measures up to his fiancée’s upper crust family.

A couple months before the wedding, Gwendolyn’s college-aged brother Marshall disappears. When Gwendolyn’s wealthy uncle offers Charles fifteen grand to find Marshall, Charles knows it’s a bad idea. But he’s convinced Marshall is in trouble. And this is Charles’s big chance to prove himself to his future in-laws.

But Marshall doesn’t want to be found. Gwendolyn is keeping a secret that might explode their relationship. And when Charles uncovers a creepy pattern of behavior that connects Marshall to a conspiracy involving a shady real estate developer, Charles has to protect the kid from the same gun-toting tough who’s stalking Charles and Gwendolyn.
